We're sad to announce that after an amazing three year journey, Go Violets is coming to a close.
We are incredibly grateful for the opportunities that we have been given to make friends, meet and discover new bands, and travel the country. We’d like to thank our friends, family and fans who have encouraged and supported us along the way, especially in the Brisbane community.We will all be continuing with our own artistic endeavors so stay tuned.
You can see us play two last shows in the next month, one of which will be at Trainspotters on the 29th of March, and the other an all ages event with details to be released soon.

Brisbane's Last Dinosaurs lost a member today as Sam Gethin-Jones announced his departure from the band with a written statement.
Hi everyone.
Sam here. I come with the unfortunate news that I will no longer be a part of Last Dinosaurs. For the band to move forward in the strongest way possible it is best that we part ways now. I can honestly say that the best experiences in my life have been with the guys, and I’ll always be grateful for the memories we’ve shared. To all Last Dinosaurs fans that I’ve interacted with, that have come to ours shows, or that have appreciated our music I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart. To Lach, Sean and Dan I want to wish you fellas the best of luck moving forward. We’ve been working on the second album and it is going to blow your minds (you’ve been warned). This isn’t the end of my life with music, just a different pathway for me to follow now. So keep your ears to the ground and I’ll see you all soon with something new and exciting.

Brisbane alt-rock stalwarts Regurgitator have announced they'll be releasing album number eight "Dirty Pop Fantasy" on September 11 this year. Happy days.

A long-standing favourite event for Brisbane heavy music lovers, the Dead Of Winter festival is back again in 2013. This is just the first announcement, with over 40 bands set to perform across five stages at the event when it hits the recently revamped Jubilee Hotel on Saturday 13 July. As in accordance with tradition, punters are strongly encouraged to dress up in their most evil fancy dress to make sure the vibe is just right.

The official dates for the 2013 Australian Vans Warped Tour have been announced.
Festival organiser AJ Maddah revealed on Twitter that the Warped Tour will be hitting Brisbane on Friday, November 29; Coffs Harbour on Saturday, November 30; Sydney on Sunday, December 1; Canberra on Friday, December 6; Melbourne on Saturday, December 7; and Adelaide on Sunday, December 8.

What are the QMA's? - The Awards shine the spotlight on the state’s homegrown talent with last year’s winners notably including international buzz band, DZ Deathrays, Cub Scouts, Kate Miller-Heidke, The Grates, Ben Salter, Pete Murray and many more. Since taking out last year's jazz award, virtuoso pianist and composer Marialy Pacheco also has won the prestigious solo piano competition at the 2012 Parmigiani Montreux Jazz Festival.
Entry categories: Pop, Rock, Blues/Roots, Country, Urban, Folk/Singer Songwriter, World, Jazz, Electronic/Dance, Heavy, Schools (Grade 6 – 12), Children’s Music.

In recent years, the live music industry has suffered under government-introduced liquor-licensing laws, reducing abilities for venues to host live performances. In an effort to protect small gigs around the nation, SLAM was created – an entirely volunteer-run party that stands for Save Live Australia’s Music. In 2010, SLAM held a rally through Melbourne in protest of these stern laws and, ever since, hosts National SLAM Day on February 23 in its memory. As a part of the day’s festivities, bundles of small gigs will be performed throughout the country, which you can go and support.

Along with a series of exhibitions and events that will focus on the state's musical history since the 1850's there's set to be a series of live performances and that's something that may be of interest to local acts.
There's set to be a House band spot that will involve gigs on Saturdays in the Queen Street Mall and the Music Box along with sales of your music at the Library Shop.
Along with the House band there will also be seperate Sunday performances at the Cultural Center and acoustic gigs throughout the Library itself.

Brisbane's West End favourites, Laneous & The Family Yah are gearing up to release album "Found Things" their follow up album to last year's "St Ill Regal". It's not set to be out until September so you won't be able to hear it all until then but for until that time arrives there is new single "I Am Dog" complete with humorous video and all.
Brisbane's resident mod soul punk spirits Running Guns have put up a taste of their new album on their myspace in the form of new song 'The Count; the Beat', head on over and check it out.

Funnily enough MMB got sent an album from a New York record label for a Californian band, neither being all that close to Brisbane, let alone Australia, but hey it's nice to feel noticed even if it does just involve being added to a mailing list.
The Spires are a three-piece dream pop band from Ventura, California and consist of Jason Bays (vocals/ guitar), Colleen Coffey (drums) and Catelyn Kindred (bass). Having formed in 2004 they have since gone on to release three LP's and half a dozen EP's up until their latest scheduled release of 'Curved Space' on July 13. Their previous work has earned them comparisons with the likes of The Velvet Underground, Belle & Sebastien, Robyn Hitchcock and even Brisbane's own, The Go-Betweens.
'Curved Space' appears to be a continuation from their previous work, a sound full of reverb, dreamy pop and melancholic lyrics. A video for the first single from the EP, 'Orange Yellow' is below and if you like what you hear that much the EP is reportedly due for release on July 13.
